Combined them with Alpine MRP-F300, and what amazes me about these pair is the powerful bass they can reach without any audible distortion. for the highs they are sharper than other brands
I highly recommends connecting them to power amp. to get the ultimate bass out of them.

These had good overall response. If you're wanting a ton of bass, there may be someing else, but they did fantastic for me. I had them installed in a Acura Legend, and with the mounting on the rear deck, they sounded fantastic
Alpine type R series are good overall, however the type S are entry level junk, so stick with type R.

i don't know about technical things regarding electronics.
i bought what my son told me buy.
he installed everything.
these are paired with a pioneer receiver and an alpine amp.
i do not have a sub.
all i know is i can turn up my stereo now, and it is VERY CLEAR. even when very loud.
i play piano myself, and i particularly like to hear every instrument on a recording.
these do it for me without breaking the bank.

With these the mid level frequencies dont have as much as a noticable differance than last years version, but the highs deffinatly. Alpine completely redesigned the tweeter so highs are much louder than before and over all they have a great SQ.
