Product Description
The Alpine SPS-600C 6.5 inch pair of component car speakers are quite impressive! If you enlarge the above photos, you will notice the mids are equipped with a center mounted piece of metal. This is a sign of a speaker that will deliver competition amount of sound quality and power. Each speaker brings 240 watts peak and an incredible 50 watts RMS. The surround sound and clarity on this set is amazing. These have large magnet structures and they go really loud. The Injected Rubber Surrounds eliminates distortion and unwanted noises. 5 out of 5 stars Don't listen to all the bad reviews   July 3, 2010

For the price I was a bit weary about the sound quality, but I was soon amazed by the quality. Install was a bit of a pain because my last set of speakers were "professionally" installed and they had cut the metal in both doors despite the fact that I purchased mounts specific to my truck which they didn't use, damn best buy. The cross overs for their size actually work as they should, just make sure you do the 30-45min break-in period, i have them hooked to a sony gtx-130 head unit which the volume goes to 32, I drove around on the highway with the volume at 27, sounded like crap in the beginning. Wow was I amazed, the longer they played the better they got, I had it cranked for atleast an hour, after that they blew my $200 pioneer 6x9's out of the water. Bass was not distorted or scratchy, highs were crystal clear. I drive a fully restored 1994 s10 blazer, and plan on highly modifying the interior so I can buy two more sets of these, put one set in the kick panels and the second set in the plastic area of the trunk, also plan on purchasing the alpine 50watt X 4 amp and an alpine double din dvd/cd touch screen head unit with an alpine type R sub in the trunk...I'll never listen to music on my onkyo surround receiver again!

These speakers sound as good if only slightly better than the previous stock JBL components. Though this may be more related to the fact that they are running off the stock Harmon/Becker amplifier which is not very powerful. The bass sounds a bit more pronounced and the tweeters do seem to put out better quality sound. They have inline crossovers just like the stock JBL's so they really were almost like direct replacements. They are running off the stock radio which has a three channel equalizer and I used this to 'tune' them. Overall, I am very satisfied with them and would definitely recommend them to someone who is looking to replace their stock components or add a component set of speakers to their factory radio.

Some more details:
Bought these to replace the stock JBL component speakers in my '02 Land Cruiser because the passenger side speaker was blown. Had originally went to a car audio install shop to have them replaced and this is the speaker they recommended as a drop in replacement. They were supposed to call me in a couple days to let me know when the speakers were in stock - over a week later they never called - guess it was too small a job, so I decided to try the install myself.

These speakers were very easy to install, the woofer dropped right into the same spot as the old JBL. The tweeter took a little more effort since the original tweeter had a special bracket to hold it in place. I used the same bracket with some JB weld and it looks just like the stock install.

After listening to my radio with that blown speaker for several months, I almost forgot how it sounded before, but in my opinion, the sound quality is the same if not slightly better than the stock JBLs. I think the sound quality would be even better with a more powerful amplifier. The car audio install shop mentioned that these speakers could handle an aftermarket amplifier with no problem if I decided to upgrade the other stock components (ie. back speakers, subwoofer, etc.)

3 out of 5 stars Good Speakers But Probably Not Good Enough   June 30, 2010

I bought these speakers from Best Buy for $100. That was a mistake! I should've bought them from Amazon!

I have these speakers hooked up to a kenwood amp putting the required RMS power to them, so the speakers frankly have everything they need to perform as good as they will. I am happy with them but I believe I could've probably bought better speakers for the same amount of money. The base is good, the mids are okay and the highs are okay. By no means do these speakers suck. They are far better than my stock '98 4Runner speakers.

However every now and then on higher volumes you can hear the tweeters crack a little bit. Indeed, as so many reviewers before me have said, the crossovers supplied with the speakers really don't do a good enough job of keeping the lower mid-range frequencies away (keep in mind that my amp is set to keep all base frequencies away from these speakers, so if you don't have any type of crossover before your speakers this issue could even be worse!). This isn't a huge deal as at the volumes I'm talking about your ears are hurting, HOWEVER, what about when I want to open the doors and use my system to keep me company while doing some yard work or while camping? I see myself using these speakers as I see fit regardless of how much damage I do to them. If they finally die on my due to my abuse I'll just replace them with a different brand - a brand that doesn't have these tweeter clipping problems.

I am happy with my purchase but I'm not ecstatic - and as a consumer, don't we all want to feel like we have superior components that didn't stab our wallets as well? Isn't that why most of us purchase good online in the first place?

I recommend you go elsewhere for your needs. In my research many people seem to have great things to say about Rocksford Fosgate. In the past I have had great experiences with Boston Acoustics and Kenwood speakers.

I needed to replace my front speakers in a 2004 Chev truck(one was blown). I got through all of the custom mounting and mods, with lack of instructions (other than several disturbing diagrams on the box). I even bought my own wire terminals (not included).
But what was most agonizing was the sound quality...I have to crank the stereo to even hear them, and then it sounds fair. No base, no power, no vibes. Tried adjusting the stereo and I just cant get them to sound good.
Thinking I might have wired them wrong, I verified everything. I then tried different configs. without the tweets, switching terminals +/- and still weak.
Compared one new with the one good stock speaker and stock is so much louder, clearer, base ect.
I'm not sure if these are defective, don't work with Chev. stock stereo, or what.
I dont have an amp. could these be just for amped systems? I give up.

I ordered a $299 7"DVD, Ipod control, Bluetooth, GPS unit on another site for $299 directly from China with no brand name. While impressed with all the features the sound was no better than stock head unit. I ordered these speakers for the front and the non component version for the back. They sound INCREDIBLE and I am seriously considering not even ordering a subwoofer for my SUV. Crystal clear highs, mids, and surprising bass.
