The brand-new component loudspeakers from the PVI series use the completely new tweeter PTI 40. Developed on the basis of the innovative WideSphereTM-Technology with its inverted titanium dome provides extremely good resonance and radiation characteristics. The PVI series uses two-piece loudspeaker baskets of exclusively carbon fiber-reinforced plastic composite with edge-wound 1"/25 mm voice coils and special silver-painted metal covers for optimum protection and effective cooling of the magnet system.

 Sounds great at first - overboosted highs & lows good for a headache. LARGE BOXY crossovers. September 1, 2010

I bought these speakers with great enthusiasm and when I wired them up, the initial impression produced a big smile! By the second tune I realized the tonal balance is what I liked when I attended high school, too bright and the highs and lows were over boosted.
If you leave your bass and treble flat and produce a moderate volume, you're guaranteed a headache!
The cross overs you get are HUGE and made to show off. They also produce an annoying rattle. You would have to wrap the crossovers in a sound deadening material to reduce the rattle, which makes them even larger to place somewhere.
Basically, you likely will have to put the crossovers in the dash, under the seat or trunk, because they certainly are not going to fit anywhere else in many cars. WHY are they so big? If you manage to fit them in a crevice with poor sound dampening, get ready for rattles from the cross overs.
If you decide to set them up as a coaxial speaker, you begin to appreciate the poor fit and finish.
After a few days, I posted the MB Quarts on ebay at a loss. What a headache and hassle!?
I have infinity Kappa's with integrated crossovers now. They are a great value! They are simply superior! Easier to wire! Integrated cross over! Superior build and sound quality.

I just had these professionally installed in my Civic, on the way home from the shop I was grinning the entire way. The sound fidelity from these speakers is incredible, I was listening to some of my favorites and I heard parts of the music I didn't even know existed even after listening hundreds of times. The bass response is almost as good as a subwoofer and the tweeters really envelope you with sound. I would recommend these to anybody, the best speakers I have heard in a car. If you appreciate high quality sound, these are the speakers for you.

I wanted to give everyone my honest review about these MB Quart PVI 216 speakers. I bought my first set of MB Quarts in the early 90's. They were 6.5" component reference series. I bought my second set in the late 90's. They were 5.25" premium series. The only major difference between the reference series and the premium series were the crossover. I still own the 5.25", so I used them to compare against this new series of PVI 216.
Even though the new PVI 216 are built in China (I hate to buy stuff from a country with civil rights as bad as theirs), but they are excellent speakers. The build quality on the speakers (in my opinion) is better than the old MB Quart Speakers. But, the build quality on the crossovers (in my opinion) is worse than the old MB Quart Speakers. The components inside the crossovers look cheaper and not as well made as the old crossovers.
I installed the speakers with the new cheaper looking crossover and they sound excellent. As good as any car stereo speakers that I have ever heard. Crystal clear highs (I had to turn the crossover down -3dbs), excellent vocals and snappy mid bass. Useable frequency. response to 60 hz with no distortion. I am driving each speaker with 100 watts.
I bought these speakers for $105.00 a pair here on Amazon. For that price, these speakers are a steal and a definite best buy!
High-End sound on a budget June 17, 2010

I purchased two sets of MB Quart Premium PVI216 6.5" 2-Way components off of Amazon for 105.00 and they are well worth the price. I had an old High-End system I had pulled out of my old car about 3 years ago that I wanted o re-use and needed some good components for a reasonable price. I had them professionally installed in my VW Jetta. They are being pushed by a PPI amp that has an RMS of 125w per channel @ 4ohm and these are nice. They produce a well rounded sound and you can hear the quality. I cannot turn the gain up on the amp at all so I would recommend sticking to a good 75w amp. They are complemented by a Pioneer Premier Head unit and a 10"w7 sub. If you are on a budget and you install these properly you will not get a better speaker for less than 450.00 a pair.
