| Customer Reviews: Sounds good, engineering quality on the other hand... September 6, 2010 R. Crooks (Toledo, OH) The speakers sound good. No complaints there. However, if you look at the speakers, you just can't help but think they look cheap. The tweeters look nice and aren't terrible, but the woofers not so much. First, the basket is plastic... not like the high density polymer or fiberglass impregnated epoxy, etc, but what looks like simple ABS plastic. You can easily distort the frame, which turns into a problem for me. My speaker mounts aren't perfect, so the speaker needs to be partly sticking out from the mount, so I was just going to tighten the mounting screw down partially to hold it in place (there's no enclosure, so no big deal)... well, the frame has a lot of give and when I tighten it down even slightly, it distorts the frame and the voice coil rubs. Another poor design involves the center phase plug. It is also plastic and the way it mounts is very imprecise. It sits very uncentered and if you're not careful, will probably rub the voice coil. Then, try to mount the tweeter in the coaxial position and you'll find the attached connectors don't fit through the post, so you have to open up the hole on the post to fit them through. Not only that, but the tweeter sits very far out, which may be a problem if your speaker grill sits close to the cone. And, again, the mount is not very sturdy, so when mounted vertically, the post comes very close to the voice coil. If your grill happens to touch the tweeter, it will probably push it into the voice coil as well.
The crossovers look to be nice quality, but I'm puzzled by the "Flexxmount" name as they certainly are not very "flexible" in their mounting ability. There's not even any included mounting solution, ie mounting tabs, brackets, etc. Not to mention, they're HUGE. But, the components look to be decent quality, so it's not a huge deal there.
So, I would like the speakers much better if they had not gone cheap on the design of these speakers. Personally, I don't think they are fit to be a top-of-the-line model for their brand. I'm afraid MB Quart is not really a high end manufacturer any longer.
Not a good experience March 11, 2010 D. Campbell 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Buying from MB Quart has not been a good experience. These speakers sounded alright out of the box - sound B+, imaging A+. However, one of the woofers died after about two weeks. I sent in an email to warrant support and didn't hear anything. After placing a phone call, I was able to connect with support. I sent the whole unit in - the woofer and the tweeter mounted in the coaxil position. I received back only a woofer. I sent an email to the person I had been dealing with explaining that I had only received a woofer and no tweeter. Didn't hear anything. Sent a second email and received back a reply saying that their warranty department had told the person that I was dealing with that they had only received a midrange unit and no tweeter. I sent another email indicating that the tweeter had been mounted in the coaxil position. Haven't heard anything. Seems I'm out of luck. This speaker is their premium car speaker. I have to say that I would not buy again from this company, as the warranty support seems shoddy or slimy (haven't decided which yet). The imaging on the speakers was very good. The actual sound - not so much....B+. I'm considering scraping the two speakers and buying from another company.
